7 Quick Takes – Vol. 43

— 1 —

Hello 2014! I rang in the new year with family, sparkling cider, lots of yelling/screaming, and of course the countdown. This called for some 2014 goals and looking ahead to the future! Head on over to that post where I created a link up for others to share their goal posts. This may have been a bad idea . . . we’ll see how it turns out. However it does end up, I will certainly continue writing monthly goals because it’s been a great way to focus myself on becoming a better person.

It’s January, holy cow. Only 12 days until school starts again!! Yesterday I ordered my books (under $100 so far, whoohoo!). I also put together my weekly schedule and have been working on Ravens Respect Life shenanigans over the last few days too. It looks like this semester will not be much easier than last. BUT I feel better equipped to handle it. So bring it.

Have you ever seen this video?

Oh, and then this song made out of it?

I’m not really sure what to think about it except wow. That’s a whole lot of cat lovin’. As a non-pet person, I can’t quite relate, but I thought it was funny (even though she was totally serious). Thoughts?

California weather is the bomb. I was getting used to temperatures in the teens in Kansas but then I came home and BAM! It’s in the 60’s or 70’s. Hello sunshine. I could never live in Washington or any place that was overcast a lot.

My camera is not here yet and I feel naked without it. Yup. I am so used to being the one taking pictures. But now I don’t have pictures from this holiday season. Good thing family members have cameras!

What inspires you? I was thinking of writing a post of inspirational things . . . I really enjoy reading things about people who beat the odds against them. Motivational things on Pinterest are also awesome.

Have you ever gone back and read things you wrote years ago? Well, I started writing in journals almost 8 years ago and let’s just say my life has changed a lot (except for my penmanship *sigh*). It’s really interesting to read what went through my younger mind because I don’t always remember the little details I recorded. For some time I was set on being a broadway star which makes me laugh my head off now. But that’s a story for another day.

Here’s to ending break with sleeping in, family time, reading, and lots of other things before class picks up again 🙂

  1. I started blogging back in 2005, and I’m doing a series where I go back to some posts and discuss if I’ve changed or not from that point of view. Social media changed everything. In one post from 2006, I complaint about how rude a silent protest was at a law school. Their protest was over wiretapping.

Nine years later, at most someone would ‘protest’ with a tweet on twitter and most people don not expect any privacy with being online.

  2. Sending my goals your way! 🙂

The cat lady videos…. too funny! My friend and I quote her a lot… “I want them in baskets and on rainbows…”

Weather… sigh. As a Washingtonian, sometimes I crave the sunshine {and by sometimes, I mean November-April}. But then I think that a trade-off is usually much colder cold weather, which I can definitely live without. I’ll keep the warm-ish gray, thanks! 🙂

My penmanship is horrendous until I’m really trying, and then it’s only mediocre. I’m glad that there is no direct correlation between penmanship and quality of life; otherwise I would be in trouble.

Enjoy your last days of break! 🙂

    1. Oh goodness. You know what I thought when I watched that video? That I could make a really funny pro-life version replacing cats with babies 🙂 Hehehehe. Too funny. Randomly quoting it would be hilarious.

Ooh, California is probably an exception to the colder weather thing. So we don’t have tons of overcast-ness or cold weather . . . which I love! Super cold weather is definitely not awesome. But I’ve really gotten more used to it and don’t mind it as much now. Of course, that’s assuming things stay above 0 😉

Me too with penmanship! I’ve tried to make it better, so now it’s not at a 5 year old level. And I did penmanship stuff in school years ago. I just don’t know how to actually work on it. Any ideas?

      1. Hahahaha!!! A pro-life version would be amazing!

Mmm, California is nice 🙂 I’m thinking Florida or Mexico are also acceptable alternatives 🙂

Haha, I feel ya! My journals {when I’m really pouring everything out} are about a 5-year-old’s…I joined my 3rd grade co-op late, so I’ve always felt like I was missing the key to good handwriting, even with the same book and exercises. I have found that when I pay attention to my handwriting, it’s better…not prettier necessarily, but better. Can you tell a difference in the speed of your writing?

  3. 1. I am all over that link-up when I get that post written. The problem is right now I have this silly goal about waking up earlier, and I’m afraid to post it lest I actually have to follow through.

    4. Jealous.

    1. Haha, I feel your pain. But hey, don’t shy from the challenge – just make it realistic! I’ve definitely had to scale back on my goals and take small steps, and I don’t think there’s anything to regret about starting small. Maybe start by getting up 15 minutes earlier? I’ll bet you can do that!

    1. Yes! Sometimes it’s kind of funny to read what my 11 year old self thought, and definitely sometimes I’m surprised at the depth. How cool! Now I wonder what we’d think 20 years down the road… 🙂
