7 Quick Takes – Vol. 13

In an unprecedented turn of events, I forgot to post my 7 Quick Takes yesterday….I guess I was just too busy with life to remember! Summer has a way of causing you to lose track of days 🙂

— 2 —

It was two of my siblings Confirmation yesterday (how appropriate on Pentecost) and I was both of their sponsors. Sure smelled like chrism around here for a while!

— 3 —

I just re-took that Catholic IQ test, and was happy to see my score has improved since last July. I’m still rather terrible in a couple sections though which I should work on (history and anti-Catholics). You should go take it and test your Catholic knowledge! What areas can you improve on?

— 4 —

I saw this video for the first time this week. Watch it for a little bit of awesomesauce and inspiration!

— 5 —

My family and I got home from our road trip a couple days ago, and man is it nice to be home! College sure makes you appreciate things like: no flip flops in the shower, butter, NO CAF FOOD, California sunshine, and of course family.

— 6 —

I was looking into scholarships today, and am not having much luck. I applied for many back when I was graduating, and now it seems that the pickings are a bit more slim. I’ve been trying to find more niche scholarships (Catholic, pro-life, etc.) but haven’t found ones that I qualify for. Too bad I’m not left handed! Do you know of any?

— 7 —

And now, enjoy this precious picture someone just shared on Facebook: twins who found each others hands to hold shortly after being born ❤

And the school year is OVER!! Finals already seem like forever ago, and I’m looking forward to a break from academics this summer. Of course I’ll be working a lot, but I’m ready to trade in school books for sunshine.

— 2 —

After staying at BC for my sister’s graduation, I’m road-tripping home with my family now. We’ve got a massive buss-like sprinter van, which is kinda epic. We’re stopping at the church my grandparents were married in, and where my dad used to work. It’s cool to see all the family history.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

— 4 —

Packing up my dorm room was harder than I thought it would be. Fitting everything into boxes, checking every space, and deep-cleaning everything took a good amount of time. It’ll be interesting to see how moving back in goes in the fall! I’ll definitely miss the convenience of everything at BC (and of course the people there), but know I will enjoy the break over the summer 🙂

— 5 —

You should read this. I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s an interesting take on the “wimpy kids” of America whose lives are planned out for them and aren’t allowed to fail. I can’t really imagine being spoon-fed life every step of the way, but it’s what many parents of today are doing. Sometimes you’ve just got to accept that you’re not perfect, and kids aren’t either.

— 6 —

Paul Ryan gave the commencement speech at BC’s graduation. It was neat to have him at our school, and have him experience BC.

— 7 —

And now, since I can’t think of anything else to say, enjoy this picture from Catholic Memes.

This week I ran my first Color Run! Well, let’s rephrase that . . . I made it to the end without dying after realizing how terribly I need to get in shape as people whizzed by me. Thoughts that ran through my head: “Holy cow, how can that person keep running?”, “This colored powder tastes like nature”, “My sunglasses need to stop fogging up”, “How did the powder get through my pants?”, and “Oh my gosh, my boogers are teal”.

This week I gave blood for the first time! My school does it a couple times a year, and I was a little nervous to do it. The last memory I have of a needle being in the general vicinity of my elbow was my kindergarten physical when I had to be held down for that shot. At least that’s what I remember. . . Anyway, I couldn’t come up with a good enough excuse to get out of it, so I did it. The lady who did mine was very good and found my vein nicely (thank goodness because you can’t see it) without having to hold me down 🙂 I bled very quickly (is that tmi?) and it was super weird to have this warm tube coming out of me with my own blood in it. It’s like an external vein!! I’ve had no bruising or problems, so the experience was good. I’ll do it again, especially since I’m a universal donor (O-).

Only two more days of classes! I’m just a little excited about this one – More than Mr. Bean is even!

— 4 —

Now that classes are almost over, it means finals are just around the corner. I have 2 this Thursday and 3 next Monday. I also have a huge group project due this Tuesday which we’re writing a paper and giving a presentation for. Let’s just say I’ve learned why you should NEVER be the one to edit a group paper.

— 5 —

I’m happy to announce that I will be President of Ravens Respect Life next school year! We had elections this past week and since the other president nominees dropped out, it wasn’t too close of a vote 🙂 I am PUMPED to lead this awesome group, organize the way it functions, and motivate/encourage/inspire people to stand up for LIFE.

My birthday is always going to be around finals. This year, we’re having our last abortion clinic trip in the morning and an Audrey Assad concert at night. It’s quite an interesting way to celebrate, but it’s what makes my life: Catholicism and pro-life stuff. I find it rather appropriate.

— 7 —

This week BC had its “Jam for the Lamb” which is basically a talent show we do every semester. Acts ranged from girls with guitars to “The Blobs” to hilarious parodies to dancing future seminarians. You can watch the last act here 🙂

I’m doing a color run next Saturday! It’s a 5k, and I’m super excited. Now maybe I should go for a couple jogs before it…..

— 2 —

Elections for my student pro-life group are this Tuesday! I’m looking forward to being more involved next school year, and will update with what role I’ll have in that next Sunday.

— 3 —

Right now I’m writing a report on the Woodstock festival in 1969. I looked up videos and HAHA, it’s real hippies!

— 4 —

I just found out recently that I’m living on the bottom floor of McDonald hall next year – the dorm with 8 person suites! I’m excited about the suite set-up and we’ve already begun plans for Pinterest-y things to do for it.

— 5 —

Do you know something that’s really delicious? This popcorn flavor powder is SOOOOOO good. The nacho cheese flavor is excellent as well. We stocked up on popcorn and these two powders (along with other delicious things that are bad for you) in anticipation of impending finals week 🙂

So you’ve probably seen the Dove Real Beauty video, right? It’s where women explained their features to a forensic artist who drew them. Then strangers described the same women. The later drawings showed much more beautiful people. So someone decided to make a parody of the video for men…..and it’s totally rude. I’m definitely writing more about it soon.

— 7 —

It’s only 17 days until I’m done with my freshman year at Benedictine! I am SO ready to be done, see my family, and be back in California. It has been an incredible year, and I have certainly learned so much. It’s been a big growing year for me as a person, a Catholic, and as a student. But now it’s time to bring on summer before my sophomore year!
