I’m doing a color run next Saturday! It’s a 5k, and I’m super excited. Now maybe I should go for a couple jogs before it…..

Elections for my student pro-life group are this Tuesday! I’m looking forward to being more involved next school year, and will update with what role I’ll have in that next Sunday.

Right now I’m writing a report on the Woodstock festival in 1969. I looked up videos and HAHA, it’s real hippies!

I just found out recently that I’m living on the bottom floor of McDonald hall next year – the dorm with 8 person suites! I’m excited about the suite set-up and we’ve already begun plans for Pinterest-y things to do for it.

Do you know something that’s really delicious? This popcorn flavor powder is SOOOOOO good. The nacho cheese flavor is excellent as well. We stocked up on popcorn and these two powders (along with other delicious things that are bad for you) in anticipation of impending finals week 🙂

So you’ve probably seen the Dove Real Beauty video, right? It’s where women explained their features to a forensic artist who drew them. Then strangers described the same women. The later drawings showed much more beautiful people. So someone decided to make a parody of the video for men…..and it’s totally rude. I’m definitely writing more about it soon.

It’s only 17 days until I’m done with my freshman year at Benedictine! I am SO ready to be done, see my family, and be back in California. It has been an incredible year, and I have certainly learned so much. It’s been a big growing year for me as a person, a Catholic, and as a student. But now it’s time to bring on summer before my sophomore year!

Today was my last concert chorale performance. You can watch a video of my favorite piece below, but make sure to turn the volume up so you can hear it well. Follow along with the lyrics!

O God Beyond All Praising

O God beyond all praising,
we worship you today
and sing the love amazing
that songs cannot repay;
for we can only wonder
at every gift you send,
at blessings without number
and mercies without end:
we lift our hearts before you
and wait upon your word,
we honor and adore you,
our great and mighty Lord.

Then hear, O gracious Savior,
accept the love we bring,
that we who know your favor
may serve you as our king;
and whether our tomorrows
be filled with good or ill,
we’ll triumph through our sorrows
and rise to bless you still:
to marvel at your beauty
and glory in your ways,
and make a joyful duty
our sacrifice of praise.

I have a history paper to finish up. It’s been quite lovely this semester, because I haven’t had to write too much for school. I’ve been able to stick to writing mainly for my blog and for Live Action which is just the way I like it! I love writing when it’s something I’m passionate about, but would really rather not have to write for school assignments. Anyway, this history paper is interesting because I’m writing about women throughout the 20th century using primary documents from the time. One of them is by Margaret Sanger. Yes, I do find ways to intertwine pro-lifeness into many things 🙂

This week I’m putting together a Pro-Life game night! It’s been fun putting a trivia Jeopardy game together, and I’m excited to help Ravens Respect Life (our student group) put on a fun night.

— 4 —

I saw Les Miserables (last year’s movie) for the second time yesterday. It was even better the second time around, and I noticed so much more with Christian symbolism. If you haven’t seen it, or have only seen it once, you should watch it again!

Have you heard about Kermit Gosnell’s trial? It was fun (as much as it could be) to participate in the Tweetfest pro-lifers organized about him earlier this week to force the media to start covering the story. You can watch the video below to get a feel for what I’m talking about. Be warned that there are graphic pictures included.

This past week I was able to go to a talk by Allen Hunt, a mega-church pastor turned Catholic speaker. It was really, really interesting. When on vacation (before his conversion), he would go to Catholic masses instead of protestant services on Sundays. It took him many years, but he eventually was able to see the truth in the beauty of Catholicism and the Eucharist. He said the most important thing we need to do is to remember that we are the people of the Eucharist. Many ex-Catholics, he says, are that way because they have forgotten who we are.

And now, enjoy a good laugh before the week begins!

Life Round-Up Vol. 1

laurasliferoundup
New Blog Series!

As I read through the latest happenings online each week, I often think about sharing them. But them I usually don’t, for fear people who have liked my page on Facebook will rip their eyes out in desperation. Plus, I’m trying to not be negative by bashing all the stories. But now, I’ve come up with a solution! Each week, I’ll put together a round-up of the major stories going on that I’ve read about. They’ll probably mostly be about life things, and Catholic things. Check back every Saturday

Family Guy created a musical of Terri Schiavo’s story

I’ve never watched the show, but have heard it’s super inappropriate…Anyway, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll never be watching it after seeing this.

Exodus 2013

Abby Johnson created the first ever day of exodus for abortion clinic workers. I’ve heard incredible things have happened, but will have to wait to hear exactly what! If you haven’t read about Abby’s epic organization, ATTWN, check it out! Oh, and also: Exodus 20:13 is “Thou shall not kill” in the Bible – and they didn’t even know that when they created the event.

Gosnell’s Trial

If anyone ever tries to tell you abortion is safe, point them to this story. This abortionist killed countless women and babies (he’s on trial for 7). He kept severed baby feet in jars, and had blood all over his unregulated abortion clinic. The babies he often killed by snipping their spinal columns – and he taught his unlicensed staff to do the same. Read more here, here, and here. Warning: links contain graphic images.

Plan B

So, Plan B used to not be available to minors over the counter. But now Edward Korman (a federal judge in NYC) ruled that Plan B should be available to anyone at any age. This is a megadose of hormones that are known to cause cancer, and have killed women. Now any girl can go get it – without her parents ever knowing. O.M.G. Need I say more?

Planned Parenthood endorsing post-birth murder

Have you seen this video?

There’s not much I can say to describe what this woman said – basically that we shouldn’t legislate what happens to a child born after a failed abortion. Wow.

Now for some better news….

Artist reaching out to abortion workers

This cool artist (who was nearly aborted) is trying to get this picture into the hands of abortion clinic workers – and pregnancy resoure centers too. How cool! Read this to see how you can help that happen!

My name us Laura, and I’m a tabaholic. I don’t know long I’ve been one, but my computer suffers from this when I open 20-bajillion tabs and leave them open for some time. Right now I have 14 opened, which is pretty good since I’m working on some articles. It gets worse when I’m researching sources for an article, but right now most of them are stories to read…

Today was my first concert chorale performance! We sang selections from John Rutter’s Requiem mass, and the songs O clap your hands, and O God beyond all praising. The last one is my favorite, and so, so beautiful. I can’t find a good YouTube video to share, but will hopefully have someone tape us at our performance next Sunday. Here are the words:

O God beyond all praising,
we worship you today
and sing the love amazing
that songs cannot repay;
for we can only wonder
at every gift you send,
at blessings without number
and mercies without end:
we lift our hearts before you
and wait upon your word,
we honor and adore you,
our great and mighty Lord.

Then hear, O gracious Savior,
accept the love we bring,
that we who know your favor
may serve you as our king;
and whether our tomorrows
be filled with good or ill,
we’ll triumph through our sorrows
and rise to bless you still:
to marvel at your beauty
and glory in your ways,
and make a joyful duty
our sacrifice of praise.

I loved reading this post this week. It was awesome how Calah talks about how our country treats kids, and then how we should actually be treating them (her perspective is neat too).

Happy Divine Mercy Sunday! This was my first year saying the Divine Mercy Novena, and it was awesome. Bookmark it for next year!

Watch this video! I wish I could embed it so you could watch it here, but I can’t. It’s a super adorable video of a baby cracking up; Start your week off right with lots of laughter 🙂

I was just at my library to copy off an old article for class tomorrow, and this book popped off the shelves at me! I’ve been wanting to read it for a long time, and am so glad I can now. It’ll probably be one of my next On My Bookshelf posts.

A Biblical Walk Through the Mass: Understanding What We Say and Do in the Liturgy

Are you looking forward to summer? I sure am! Only 31 days until the school year is officially over – yes, I have a countdown on my white board. It’s been so nice lately, and I am SO looking forward to this summer.

My Mother was Aborted: Huh?

She won’t be happy for too long.

You might have already seen this article circulating across the internet. If not, go read it. It’s about a new “breakthrough” ability of science: the ability to take eggs from aborted girls to be used in IVF procedures.

This makes me so sick. We now have the ability to kill an unwanted child and use her remains to create a wanted child. Hello? Where did scientists sanity go?!?! I can’t even imagine the emotional and mental trauma a child created through one of these procedures would experience after realizing they were the biological child of an aborted woman…

Thankfully, this article said that the general reaction was negative. What is it going to take for people to stand up and say ENOUGH? The time is now people. Spread the word and start speaking out about this garbage.
